Measuring
Our measuring sheet includes a straightforward, easy to follow diagram
of a typical fireplace and mantel. You provide us with accurate
measurements of your fireplace and we can determine the dimensions of
your club fender and the best way to position it. And, as the old saying
goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words". If you have a photo or
digital image of your fireplace and hearthstone, please forward it to us
along with your measuring sheet.
It is helpful to keep in mind that standard seats are 7 inches wide and
that the outside edge of the seat is vertically in line with the outside
edge of the base for maximum stability. Other things to consider in
designing your club fender are whether you would like the fender to sit
on the hearthstone, or go around the outside. And would you like the
seats to fit around the outside of the fireplace so that they go back to
the wall on either side (figure 1), or would you prefer that they
butt up to the mantelpiece supports (figure 2)? We can always
offer suggestions if you are not sure what will work best for your
situation.
We can advise you if cut-outs in the seats are necessary (figure 3), or if you require Infill Plates (figure 4). Infill Plates are used to cover any gaps between the fender base and the hearthstone. They are usually made of black steel.
